Sypro Ruby-stained 5-20 % polyacrylamide gel showing the protein fractions obtained from midgut homogenates of fed and unfed Ornithodoros erraticus ticks. Gel lanes were sliced into the 10 pieces indicated on the right, and the resulting gel fragments were digested with trypsin and analyzed by LC-MS/MS for protein identification. Some of the most interesting proteins identified in each gel fragment are indicated using custom alphanumeric codes. A description of these codes can be found in Table 2.
