Jaburetox injections diminished the clearance of bacteria from R. prolixus hemolymph. Fifth-instar nymphs (7 days after ecdysis) were injected with PB (controls) or with Jaburetox in a dose of 2 μg/insect. Five hours later, both groups were injected with ~1.8 × 106 CFU of Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923. Five hours afterwards, the number of CFU in each insect’s hemolymph was estimated by the drop-plate method. The values are expressed as the number of CFU per ml of hemolymph.
